My note: this is a cute story about JP and I'm hoping to get the rest from Angel.

Jason Perry walked along the walking trail in
the community park on the most gorgeous
day in mid October in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a great
way to spend a beautiful fall day,
thought Jason. No concerts, no screaming fans, no dance
routines to rehearse, nothing.
Just peace and quiet.

Jason was really stressed. Plus One had just
gotten off of a 3 month long tour
during the summer. And was now on a fall tour for
another 3 months. Almost everyday
they had a concert. It was tiring, but the guys wouldnt
trade it for anything. They had a
week off, so the guys decided to stay in Georgia since
that was where their last concert
was held.

Jason walked along the trail, breathing the
refreshing air. Taking in every
beautiful piece of scenery. Watching the leaves dance
gracefully in the wind. Loving every
moment of Gods beautiful creation.

He suddenly heard laughter from somewhere near.
He followed the sound. After
a few seconds, he found a young woman sitting under a
tree with her dog. The girl was
beautiful. Her honey brown skin glistened in the sun.
Her long, dark hair hung stunningly
down to her middle. Her smile was elegant. Her eyes
seemed to shine like stars. Jason was
struck by her beauty.

The girl sat with her dog in her lap, stroking
him gently. The dog was very
content in his owners arms. As if he knew that no harm
would come to him as
long as his mistress was with him.

The girl hummed to soothe the dog. Well, baby,
Im going to eat lunch while
you nap. The dogs head shot up alertly. His mistress
laughed heartily. I thought thatd
wake you up. The girl arose from the ground. Well,
before we eat lunch, lets try our
routine one more time, okay? The dog barked
happily. All right, just give me a sec to set
up.

The girl pulled a boom box out of a big bag. She
placed a tape inside the tape
deck and pressed play. Ready, babe? she called to her
small companion. He barked
gaily. Okay, lets do it! When the music sounded, the
girl and her dog danced.

Jason watched from a bench a few feet away. He
watched the girl as her body
moved to the music with such grace. It was very
becoming. Even her dog was
dancing with her. It was a beautiful performance. So
beautiful, Jason knew he had to get a
closer view.

He walked nearer to the girl and her pet. He sat
on a picnic table and watched
this beautiful figure move.

The girl was so into her dance, she didnt
notice Jasons presence. She just let
the wind, the sky, and clouds be the only thing in
existence. She twirled around and
peacefully wilted to the ground as the music ceased, her
finale.

The beautiful stranger rose from the ground. She
bowed to the trees, to the
wind, to the heavens.

Suddenly she heard applause. She looked up and
was instantly embarrassed.
The tall figure came toward her as she scrambled to put
up her boom box.

That was amazing. Jason said.

Thank you. the girl looked into Jasons eyes.

Her jaw dropped. Oh my word! Do you know who
you are?! You are Jason
Perry!
Jason smiled. Guilty. Ive been watching you,
youre really good!

Oh wow! I cant believe this! Jason Perry just
complimented me!

Jason rolled his eyes.

Oh, Im sorry. Youre probably really tired of
fans all the time. But, thanks for
the compliment.

No problem. So, you know my name, whats yours?

Oh, Im sorry, I completely forgot to introduce
myself. How rude of me! My
name is Krystal Avery. Krystal outstretched her hand.

Nice to meet you, Krystal. Jason shook her
hand. Krystals dog sniffed
Jasons leg. He jumped on Jasons freshly pressed pants
leg, marking it with dirt.

Oh, bad boy! No doggie treat for you! Bad boy!
Krystal yanked her dogs
collar. That was his spanking. Im sorry, Jason. Ill
pay to clean that up.

Jason laughed. Dont worry. A little dirt never
hurt anyone. He bent over to
pet the whining dog. Whats his name?

Dallas.

Dallas? Its interesting. Unique. I like it.
Did you name him?

Yeah. Most of the time hes pretty well-
behaved.

What kind of dog is he? Hes beautiful.

Thanks. Hes a Pomeranian.

A Pomeranian? Ive never seen one this color
before.

Dallas is a rare dog. Hes my best friend.
Krystal grinned at the
golden-colored dog.

Yeah, my dog was my best friend, too. His name
is,--

Max, Krystal finished. Yeah, I know.

Jason and Krystal gazed into each others eyes
and turned away quickly. Krystal
blushed. Jason smiled.

So, um, Krystal said, finally. Why are you
here in Georgia?

We have a few days off, and since here was the
last place we performed, we
decided wed stay put until we leave for our next
concert.

Oh! So, how do you like it here? Krystal
smiled.

Its beautiful. I love this park. Ever since I
got here, Ive just been in awe of
how beautifully God made everything. Ya know, I never
really take the time to appreciate
nature like I used to. I dont even remember being in a
park, just being able to be alone.
Ya know, just me, myself and I.

Krystal giggled. Thats cute. It must be pretty
hectic going from city to city
doing the same thing over and over and over again.

It is, believe me. You have no idea how chaotic
it is.

Boy, the way youre talking about it, makes me
think you dont like what you
do.

Oh, I do! I love to sing. I love my career.
Its just that sometimes I wish I had a
regular life.

Dont! I think what you do is fabulous. Its
definitely the ultimate career. You
get to spread Gods word throughout the nation! You are
adding more names into the
Book of Life! What you do, what Plus One does, is pretty
amazing.

Jason smiled. Thank you, Krystal. So, um, did
you go to the show last night?
Yes! You guys were so good! I think that was
the best performance Ive seen
yet! You sounded so amazing!

Thank you.

The dances were incredible!

Our dances are incredible?! Your dance is
unbelievable! I bet you will be a
famous choreographer someday.

You think? Am I really that good, or are you
just trying to be sweet? Because
if you are... its working.

Jason laughed. No, Im serious, youve got a
real talent.

Well, to tell you the truth, I have always
wanted to be a famous
choreographer.

Yeah, and who knows, maybe youll be Plus Ones
next choreographer.

In my dreams! Me? The choreographer for the
new, most popular Christian
boy band. Yeah, sure, itll happen. Krystal smiled.

Well, not with that attitude it wont! You have
believe in yourself. Have faith in
God. Itll happen if its what He wants you to do.

What if He doesnt want me to be a famous
choreographer?

What if He does? Jason challenged her.

Krystal couldnt help but laugh. Jason is
sooooooo sweet, she thought. No
wonder he was always my favorite. Besides, hes really
cute up close, too.

* * * * * * * * * *
45 minutes later...

Krystal glanced at her watch. Oh my word! Its
4:23! I was supposed to be
home at 3:30! My moms gonna go ballistic. Krystal
grabbed Dallass leash. Come on,
Dal. We gotta go home, pronto!

Do you want a ride? Jason offered.

No need, I live a couple blocks from here, Ill
be home in no time. But, thanks
for the offer.

No problem. Maybe I could, ya know, tag along.
Ya know, make sure you get
home okay.

Sure! Id like that.

* * * * * * * * * *
15 minutes later...

Well, thanks for walking home with me, Jason.
That was very thoughtful of
you. Krystal unlatched Dallass leash and let him run
into the house.

I have to meet the guys around the corner, so
it was no problem.

Where are you and the guys staying?

In that hotel not too far from here.

Oh, cool! Id love to stay in a hotel. But Ive
only been in a hotel like once!
When my family went to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
It was so much fun!

Yeah, Ive been to Orlando myself a couple of
times. Its one of those places
where youre never too old to ride any attractions.

Totally! I was fourteen when we went and I was
determined not to get on any
kid rides. But, when we got there, I rode almost every
attraction there!

Jason laughed. Yeah, Disney World will do that
to you. So, how old are you
now?

Im eighteen, Ill be nineteen on June 1st!

No way! Me too! I mean, Ill be twenty-one on
June 1st.

Yeah, I knew that. I told you, I know just
about everything there is to know
about you. Its amazing how we share the birthday, huh?

Yeah. Jason scratched the back of his
neck. Um, do you think youd like to
go hang out somewhere later? Maybe you could come back
to our hotel room and meet
the guys.

Id love to! Ill ask my parents and Ill call
you, okay?

Sure, okay. Do you have a pen? Krystal handed
Jason a purple pen.
Thanks. Jason scribbled something down on a scrap
piece of paper. Heres my cell
number. Give me a call when your parents give you the
verdict, okay?

I will, you can bet on it.

Okay, well Id better get going, the guys are
gonna wonder why I was gone so
long. I hope I get to see you real soon.

That goes double for me. Bye! Krystal entered
her house and closed the door
behind her.

She is so cute! Jason thought, as he jogged down
the porch steps.

He is so cute! Krystal thought, as she set her
bag down in a chair and collapsed
on a nearby sofa. She closed her eyes and listened. She
listened to her mom cooking in the
kitchen. She listened to her brothers upstairs, blasting
their stereos. She listened
to her dads pecking on the computer in the study. She
listened to her older sister sing,
while her younger sister played the drums in the den.
She listened to her family.

What time is it? thought Krystal. 4:45. Dinners
at 6:00. I can ask mom and
dad if I can go with Jason then. Please, let them say
yes!

Krystal ran upstairs to her room, which she
shared with her younger sister,
Christina, who everyone called Tina. She went to her
closet and found her diary
in her secret hiding place, neatly covered with old
clothes.

She brought the diary to her desk, found her
purple pen, and sat to write.

Dear Diary
Thurs. 10-17-2002

Today, was the most exciting day of my life! I
was sitting in the park with
Dallas, like usual. We decided to practice our dance
routine (you know, the one we are
going to perform at church next Sunday.) before lunch.
So, we did.

I was minding my own business, dancing away. In
fact, I was soooo consumed
with my dancing, I didnt even realize that someone was
watching me!

I didnt notice until I finished and someone was
applauding. I looked up, but
didnt really see him. All I knew was that he was
handsome. VERY handsome!

He complimented my dancing, I thanked him, and
that was when I looked into
his face! You will die when I tell you who it was!!!
JASON PERRY!!!!! Can you believe
it? Jason Wayne Perry from Plus One had just
complimented me! But, not only that, he
said I had real talent!!
We talked practically the whole afternoon. We
talked for so long, I lost track of
time, and I was supposed to start dinner. BIG WHOOPS!

But, you still havent heard the best part! He
wants to see me again! He invited
me to come to his hotel room to meet the rest of the
Plus One guys. He gave me his cell
number, to use in case mom and dad say I can go. PLEASE
say I can go!

Well, its almost dinner time and I have to wash
up. I will write in you after I
hear from my parents.

Love Always,
Krystal A.

Krystal put away her diary and pen and headed to
the bathroom. The door was
closed. Whoever is in here, better hurry up! she
yelled.

Krystals older brother, Sam, opened the
door. Wait a sec, Krys. Im getting
ready for a date. You can go to the other bathroom.

Sammy! Krystal waited 6 minutes and 18
seconds. She counted on her watch.
What are you doing in there? She asked when Sam was
still in the bathroom.

Im shaving!

Let me come in, I just need to wash my hands.

Whatever! Sam opened the door for Krystal.

So, you taking Jasmine out again? Krystal
stopped talking when she smelled a
strong scent. Dag, Sammy! You went a little overboard
with that aftershave.

I want Jasmine to know I smell good!

Oh, bro, she knows. She can smell you from
wherever she is now! And, its not
a good aroma. Krystal chuckled.

Look, if youre gonna tease me, go elsewhere!
Im busy.

Okay, whatever. I have enough things on my
mind, anyway.

About guys?

Yeah, why do you care? Krystal rolled her eyes
upward.

Im your big brother, youre my baby sister. I
care about you, I care about your
social life. Which brings me to another question. Who
was that guy outside you were
talking to?

Thats for me to know, and you to find out. See
you at dinner. Krystal left the
bathroom and headed for the stairs.

When is this being the older brother thing
ever going to pay off? Sam asked
himself.

* * * * * * * * * *
At dinner...

The Averys sat around the table. All talking at
one time. It was hard for Krystal
to bring up the Jason situation.

Everyone, quiet down. Lets pray before we
talk, okay? commented Mrs.
Avery. She was always the one calling order in the
house. Who wants to pray?

I will, Ma. piped in Lee, Krystals 13-year-
old brother. Everyone bowed their
heads. Dear Heavenly Father, prayed Lee. We come
before you in the name of
Jesus and we ask that you please bless this food we are
about to receive. We pray that this
food will nurture and bless our bodies. We love You,
Heavenly Father. In Jesus name.
Amen!

Amen, everyone else chorused.

This is it!!!! Krystal thought. Mom, dad, you
will not believe what happened to
me today!

This better be good. You were late getting back
home today.  Her mom
replied.

I know, Ma, Im sorry. I didnt mean to be
late, but something exciting came
up!

Well, does this have anything to do with that
guy I saw you with on the porch
earlier? Sam said as he helped himself to some salad.

What guy? asked Tina. Tina was fourteen and
was always interested in some
boy or another. Was he cute?

Yes, Tin, hes cute. Krystal turned to
Sam. Yeah, it has something to do with
him. See, the guy was Jason Perry.

Krystals older sister, Nikki, almost choked on
her Sprite. She was desperately
gasping for air. Did you say Jason Perry?!?!?!?!

Krystal chuckled. Yeah!

As in from Plus One??? Nikki had tears in her
eyes from choking.

Krystal nodded vigorously.

PLUS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my word!!!!! You saw
Jason Wayne Perry?!?!?!?
Tina jumped up from the table.

Krystal, Tina, and Nikki all jumped up and down
and squealed.

Oh my word! Jasons so cute! He is the best
looking in the group! Nikki was
gasping for air again. Nikki was twenty-one and she
still was crazy about Plus One.

No way! Nates the cutie! Tina argued.

Guys, face it, all the guys in Plus One are
babes! Krystal finally stated.

Yeah! Nikki and Tina exclaimed.

Will you girls quiet down! Who or what is Plus
One anyway? Mr. Avery was
always at work and he didnt know Plus One from dcTalk.

Oh, Kenny, Plus One is a Christian boy band.
Theyre pretty good, if I do say
so myself. And like the girls say, they are pretty
adorable young boys. stated Mrs. Avery.
She turned back to Krystal. Now, please continue,
honey.

So, Krystal told everyone what happened.
Everyone was amazed at Krystals
story. Nikki and Tina sat bug-eyed while Krystal
explained. And so, he asked if I could
come back to his hotel with him and meet the guys, maybe
go out for ice cream or
something. Krystal finished. But I told him I wouldnt
go if I didnt get your permission.
So, please could I go?

I dont know, Krys, started Mr. Avery. We
dont know this boy. How old is
he anyway?

Daddy, hes Sammys age, twenty. Well be home
by 11:30. I promise. And,
its not even like its a date. He just said he wanted
to hang out. Thats all, nothing more.

Kenny, do you think we should let her go? I
mean, she was late getting home
today, when I told her distinctively to come home at
3:30. her mom inputted.

But, Ma, I told you that was an accident. I was
talking to Jason and I lost track
of time. Please, you cant hold this against me! Please,
let me go!

Yeah, Ma! Nikki declared. Do you know how
good an opportunity this is?
Something you cant turn down. Something that happens
only once in a lifetime.
Please, let her go. Like she said, her getting home late
wasnt purposely planned. Please,
Ma, Dad.

Krystal smiled at her big sister. Thats my sis,
always looking out for her
siblings.

Oh, all right, but youd better be home at
10:00, sharp, young lady! Mrs.
Avery stated.

Krystal bolted out of her seat to hug her
parents. But, mom! Im eighteen! I
especially remember you saying when I was eighteen, Id
get to stay out later. I can stay
out until 11:30, remember?

That may be true, but we dont know this boy,
and you were late home today.
Need I say more?

No, maam. Thanks for letting me go, though. I
love you both even more!

Yeah, you say that now, but if youre late home
again, no matter the
circumstance, youre in big trouble, missy. Thats why
you have a watch with an alarm.
Next time, use it. Mr. Avery looked very solemn. He
wasnt playing any games. He
meant business.

Yes sir! May I please be excused for a minute
to call Jason. I promised Id call
when I heard from you guys.

You have his phone number!?!?!? Nikki and Tina
exclaimed at the same time.
Krystal nodded and grinned widely.

Yes, you may. But, after that, come back to
your seat and lets have a nice,
quiet dinner. Mr. Avery wiped his mouth.

Yes, daddy. Ill be right back.

* * * * * * * * * *
Meanwhile...

Jason was sitting on a stool in the kitchen area
of the hotel room he shared with
Nathan Walters, the oldest guy in the group. Jason had
his cell phone in his hand, hoping
that it would ring and Krystal would be on the other
line.

He thought back to the earlier events of the
day. He remembered Krystals
round face. Her eyes full of hope. He liked everything
about her. From her personality to
her smile and laugh.

Nathan entered the room then. He stared at
Jason. Jase, you okay? he asked.
Jason didnt answer. Jason? Nathan tried again. Still
no answer. Nathan waved his hand
in front of Jasons face. No movement. This time Nathan
yelled in Jasons ear. That got
Jasons attention. He jumped.

Whatd you do that for, Nathan? Jason grabbed
his ear.

Man, are you okay? Youve been pretty spacey
ever since you got home from
the park. Anything wrong?

Wrong? No, everythings fine! Im just, um,
waiting on a phone call.

Oh, okay. Well, then you probably dont want to
go with us.

Where are you guys going?

Nowhere in particular. Just going to go
cruising the town.

Oh. Um, no, I think Ill just stay here and
wait on that phone call. Here are the
keys to the car.

We dont need them. Have you been downtown?
There are stores left and
right, we can walk.

Okay, you guys have a good time.

Okay, bye! Nathan left the room and headed to
the lobby to meet Nate Cole,
Gabe Combs, and Jeremy Mhire, the other guys in Plus One.

Jason was so anxious to get Krystals call, he
forgot that he told Krystal that she
would meet the guys. She couldnt meet them if they were
gone. Jason was just on his
way to the lobby to see if he could catch his friends,
but then, the phone rang.

Jason almost twisted his ankle trying to get to
the phone. Hello? Jason
speaking, he answered.

Hi, Jason! Its me, Krystal. Do you remember
me?

Do I? thought Jason. I couldnt get you out of
my mind. Of course, I remember
you. How are you?

Oh, Im okay. I just wanted to call and let you
know my parents are letting me
go with you to meet the guys. As long as Im home at
10:00.

Sweet! Thats no problem. But, something kinda
backfired.

Whats up?

Well, I know I kinda promised Id let you meet
the guys tonight, but they left
and I forgot to tell them I might have someone over.

Oh, well, thats okay. I can meet them anytime!
At least we can still hang out,
right?

Yep! Im up for it. What time should I come get
you?

Krystal glanced at her watch. Well, it 6:30
now. How about 7:00, thatll give
us 3 hours to just chill.

Its a plan. See you soon, I guess.

Yeah. Oh! Before I forget, before we can go
out, I have to warn you, my
familys going to want to meet you. Now, my dad is
really overprotective, but dont worry
about him. My mom will be pretty okay. My sisters will
probably want your picture or
autograph or something. They... well, all of us girls
are Plus One fans. And, well, my
brothers, they couldnt care less, but theyll want to
meet you because they are really
nosy.

Jason laughed. Thanks for the advice. See you
soon, then. Bye.

Bye.

Jason hung up the phone. Tonight, he had a date
with destiny.

* * * * * * * * * *
45 minutes later...

Krystal sat in her living room, waiting for
Jason to arrive. To help the time past
by, she decided shed write in her diary.

Dear Diary
Thurs. 10-17-2002

Guess what! Mom and Dad said I could go with
Jason! I am soooo excited! I
cant meet the guys because they went out, but being
with just Jason will be so cool! I
cant wait!

Right now Im sitting in the living room waiting
on Jason to come. I am going
to burst with excitement!

Hes going to have to meet my family. I hope
they dont embarrass me tonight!
Thats all I need!

Well, diary, hell be here any second. Later.

Love Always,
Krystal A.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Krystal dropped
her diary. She was really nervous
now. Oh! Hes here! Hes here! Hes here! Hes here!
Heeees h- Krystal bumped into
Lee. Sorry Lee, I guess Im a little nervous.

Calm down, Krys. Youll be fine. advised
Lee. Now open the door. Lee was
always the serene member of the family.

The rest of the family came from scattered ends
of the house.

Krystal checked her hair in the wall
mirror. Perfect, she said. Krystal breathed
heavily. She opened the door. There he was. The most
adorable guy shed ever laid eyes
upon. He smiled an engaging smile. Hi, Krystal. Its
nice to see you again.

Same here, Jason. Come on in, I want you to
meet my family. Krystal opened
the door wider so that Jason could enter. Guys, Id
like you to meet Jason Perry.
Krystal began. Nikki and Tinas jaws dropped. Jason,
this is my mom, Maria, my dad,
Kenneth. My older brother, Sam, my older sister, Nicole.
My younger sister, Christina,
and my younger brother Lee.

Jason went around shaking everyones hand. Its
nice to meet you all. He
turned to Mr. and Mrs. Avery. Thank you for allowing
Krystal to join me this evening. I
am very sorry I made your daughter late home this
afternoon, too.

Oh, its no trouble at all, Jason. Might I add
that I just love you alls new CD,
Obvious. Mrs. Avery said. I especially love Let Me Be
The One. That has to be my
most favorite song.

Thank you, Mrs. Avery. Thats very nice of you
to say.

Dallas came running from the kitchen to see who
the guest was. Dallas
immediately remembered Jason. Jason bent over to scratch
Dallas head. Hey boy,
remember me? Dallas laid his head on the ground and
whined. Jason laughed. I guess he
also remembers why he didnt get a doggie treat today.

Thats good. Progress. Krystal replied. Um,
Jason, maybe wed better go.
Krystal eyed her sisters. They were staring at Jason as
if he was a ghost.

Okay, Jason smiled at Nikki and Tina. Im
ready when you are.

Wait one second, Mr. Avery put in. You two
are both clear that Krystals to
be home at 10:00, right? It is ordinarily later, but
because we dont know you well
enough, yet, well, you understand.

Krystal was banging her head against the front
door. Why, tell me, why does my
dad have to embarrass me in front of the cutest guy of
all time? thought Krystal.

Yes sir. Krystal told me earlier about her
curfew and that will work fine for
me. Jason answered.

Krystal grabbed Jasons arm and pulled him out
of the house. Bye, she called
over her shoulder. Whew! I didnt think wed ever make
it out of there.

I like your family. They seem nice. Jason said
as they walked down the porch
steps together.

Sometimes, they are. Krystal and Jason
laughed. So, where do you want to
go?

I dont know, maybe you can show me around
town. Show me where you hang
out, you know. Jason opened the passengers side door
for Krystal.

Thanks. she said.

Jason got into the drivers side and cranked up
the car. Where do I go? he
asked.

Just turn left after that light up the street,
and youre on the main street
downtown. Everythings on that street. A bowling alley,
skating rink, ice cream parlors,
restaurants, everything!

Sweet! Where do you want to go? Jason turned
his left blinker on.

You pick, youre the visitor. Your call.

Does this main street have a movie theater?

Yep! Want to see a movie?

Sure! Whats out?

Um, John Q, Crossroads. Krystal began to name
off movies.

Oh! That Britney Spears movie?

Yeah, want to see it?

Jason rolled his eyes upward. He turned to
Krystal. Does it look like I want to
see it? Krystal laughed.

How about Peter Pan: Return to Neverland?
Krystal smiled weakly.

I dont do G rated movies anymore. Jason
chuckled.

Krystal laughed again. The way they make movies
nowadays, animated movie
characters use profanity! Its terrible how little kids
know more and more about
profanity or other things they arent supposed to know
yet.

Yeah, its scary. Hey, I know, how about A Walk
To Remember? I hear Mandy
Moore was pretty good in that movie.

Fine with me, lets check it out.

Sweet.

Turn here.

Gotcha.

This is a nice car you have. Is it new?

Oh, this isnt mine. Its a rental. We have to
have something to drive while
were on vacation.

Oh, he is so cute! Krystal thought. Have you
ever seen anyone look so adorable
in your life? I dont think so! I could definitely get
used to this! Im not sure if he likes
me or not, but I think Im beginning to like him! COOL!
Krystal stared out of the
window as she thought to herself.

I dont know how everythings going, Jason
thought. But, so far, Im having a
great time! Krystals definitely a sweetie. I love her
ambition to be a choreographer. I
think thatd be the perfect job for her. She has a lot
of patience from what I can tell. The
perfect quality for a choreographer.

Jason noticed that Krystal was very quiet. She
sat beside him contentedly
humming. What are you humming? Jason asked.

Krystal stopped humming. Oh, a little song me
and my brother, Sam, wrote.
Its called No Lost Love

You write, too? Sweet. What is the song about?
he asked.

Its about a young woman who has run away from
home, and now shes lost
and afraid. Her family completely abandoned her and no
one wants her. So she
decides she should turn to a greater love. The love only
Jesus Christ can give you. When it
comes to God, there is no lost love!

Amen! Jason was impressed. You have to let me
hear it some time.

Okay, Krystal replied. Maybe you could come
over tomorrow afternoon.
You could stay for dinner.

I dont know, I dont want to intrude.

Jason, youre not intruding. I want you to
come.

Will your parents mind? Jason parked the car
in the movie theaters parking
lot.

They shouldnt. We have guests over for dinner
all the time. This isnt any
different.

Id still feel better if I heard from your
parents. Jason argued.

Krystal shrugged. Suit yourself. She
unattached her purple cell phone from
her long, purple skirt and dialed her home phone number.
After a minute, someone
answered. Hey, Tina, put Ma or Dad on the phone.
Krystal paused. Hey Ma, Jason
wants to know if its okay if he comes over tomorrow
afternoon. Another pause. Is it
okay is he stays for dinner, too? One sec, ma. She put
the phone down and searched for a
piece of paper. Jason, my mom says its fine if you
come over. She picked the phone
back up. Im here, ma. Okay, she scribbled down fast
on the paper. Gotcha. Yeah, no
problem. I love you, too. Bye-bye.

Krystal hung up the phone and attached it to her
skirt again. I told you, no
sweat. She said come with an appetite.

What are you writing? Jason asked as he
clipped his phone to his pants
pocket.

Some things to buy at the grocery store.  I
have to make dinner for everyone
because Lee and Tina are having a couple friends over,
too. Besides, I was supposed to
start dinner tonight, but as you know, I was late
getting home. So this is kind of a
punishment.

Jason chuckled. Oooh, well maybe I can come
over early and take you to the
store and help you cook. Im pretty good in the kitchen.

Really? Youd do that?

Yeah, I havent got anything better to do.

Thanks. That would help me a lot! Especially
because I would need to drive
there and no one would want to take me and my parents
would be at work. And Sam
would never let me drive his new car. Typical big
brother.

Jason glimpsed at his watch. Our movie starts
in 15 minutes and it seems to be
a line, wed better go in now.

Jason and Krystal got out of the car and bounded
for the theaters ticket line. By
the time the couple reached their seats, the lights were
already dimmed. The movie was
starting.

Krystal put her arm on the rest. Jason nudged
her arm off and arranged his in
her place. Krystal smiled and shoved his arm off and
placed her arm back unto the rest. He
bumped her arm again. The two kept bumping each others
arm the whole beginning of
the movie.  They got shh ed all during the movie.

Jason kept playing and whispering funny things
in Krystals ear and Krystal
giggled like mad. Jason, you are gonna get us kicked
out of here! Quit making me
laugh!

Jason calmed down for a minute or two, but then
he softly murmured a joke in
Krystals ear.

Krystal burst into laughter. She was laughing so
hard she was in tears. And she
was laughing so hard Jason had to cover her mouth with
his hand.

Almost everyone in the room yelled for Jason and
Krystal to quiet down.

Jason! Krystal exclaimed.

Whatre yelling my name for? Youre the one
whose causing a riot.

But, you are making me laugh in the first
place!

But, youre the one laughing like a helpless
hyena! Jason smiled his adorable
smile.

Ha ha, very funny. Krystal said
sarcastically. Ill try not to laugh, okay?

Okay. But, I hope you know, youll never last.

Both of them finally made an effort to watch the
movie. But, it didnt entertain
them one bit.

Hey Krys, Jason started. Mind if I call you
Krys, by the way?

No, I dont mind as long as I get to call you
Jase.

Done. Um, could we please bail this place?
Were not even watching the
movie. Every time I try to, it doesnt interest me.

Krystal nodded. Youre right. Lets go! She
grabbed her belongings and
followed Jason out of the movie.

Are you still trying not to laugh? Jason asked.

Yeah, why?

No reason. Jason leaned toward Krystal and
whispered a joke Gabe had once
told him.

Krystal smiled and chuckled a little, but bit
her lip. Ah! Was that a laugh?
Jason blurted out. I think so.

No! It wasnt a laugh. Krystal rolled her eyes
and stared at Jasons forehead,
knowing that if she looked into his eyes, shed laugh
her heart out.

Wow, I can see youre concentrating. Jason
said.

Yep, you cant break it once Im started.

Oh, I hate to break your concentration, I
really do, but I have to.

Yeah, and how are you going to do that?
Krystal questioned.

Like this! Jason tickled Krystal. Krystal
tried desperately to get away, but
Jason was just too strong for her. Krystal concentrated
as much as she could, but it didnt
work. She burst into laughs. Finally, Krystal got away
from Jasons reach.

Jase! That was low! You are so mean! Krystal
was exhausted from laughing
so hard.

Well, I told you I could make you laugh. Jason
winked.

Great! Now Im going to have to start my
concentration over again. Krystal
got into the passengers seat and buckled her seat belt.

No, dont ever try not to laugh. You look so
pretty when you smile or laugh.
Keep on smiling. Jason beamed sweetly at Krystal.

Thanks, Jase. Thats so sweet. Krystal blushed
wildly.

Jason climbed in the drivers seat next to
Krystal. So, Krys, are you hungry or
is it just me?

Well, I ate before I left home, but I am kinda
hungry. Krystal rolled down her
window and let her hair blow in the wind.

Well, Im famished. I havent eaten anything
all day! Want to go to Sonic?

When have I ever turned down Sonic? Lets roll!

* * * * * * * * * *
1 hour, 2 shakes, and 1 large size of fries later...

Jason, I had the best time ever!

Me too. Im glad you enjoyed yourself. I really
like your city.

Thank you.

For what? Jason sat on the porch swing.

For taking me out. Krystal took a seat beside
Jason. Ive been in the house
for the longest. I havent had much time to spend with
people my own age. I mean,
Nikkis in college, so we never hang out much anymore.

Sams always going on dates. He doesnt even
say more than one paragraph to
me if he can prevent it.

My younger brother and sister have tons of
friends they talk to. But me, my
only real best friend is Dallas. But, I need someone I
can talk to, someone my age. So,
thank you so much for hanging out with me tonight.

Krys?

Yeah?

Ill be your friend.

You will?

Yeah! I havent known you more than a day, but
I feel like weve known each
other forever. Its kinda cool.

Yeah. Thanks.

No problem. So, I guess Ill talk to you
tomorrow afternoon. What time do
you want me to pick you up to go to the store?

2:45, 3:00, around that time. Ill see you
then. Bye.

Bye.

Krystal went into the house just as Nikki came
downstairs for a late night snack.

Hey, Krys, how was your night with Jason?
Nikki poured some lemonade into
a glass.

Nikki, I think Ive made a new friend.

* * * * * * * * * *
Meanwhile...

Jason unlocked the door to his hotel room with
his key card. Once inside, Jason
found himself being eyed by four other guys.

Whats up, guys? Jason asked, as he unzipped
his jacket.

Dont whats up, guys? us! Where have you
been, Jase? Nate rubbed sleep
out of his eye.

With a friend. Someone I met at the park
earlier today.

Oooh, a girl friend. Nate replied.

Who said anything about my friend being a girl?

Jase, cmon, its us. Jeremy rolled his eyes.

You guys are crazy, Jason declared.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whats her name? Jeremy
said, half asleep.

If you must know, its Krystal Avery.

I told you guys he was on a date, Gabe piped
up knowingly. I figured it out
when Nathan told us how spacey you were acting.

It wasnt a date. She just showed me around
town.

Uh-huh, and my names Bozo the Clown, Nathan
said with a book covering
his face.

Im serious! Look, you couldve met her
tonight, but you guys wanted to go
out.

Is she cute? Jeremy asked.

Jason nodded. Oh yeah! Big time. And her light
brown eyes are amazing.
Jason shivered remembering how beautiful Krystals eyes
were.

So, Jason, how did you come to meet this
Krystal Avery? Gabe said, while
balancing a spoon on his nose.

Well, started Jason. I was in the park...

* * * * * * * * * *.*
The next day...

Krystal cleaned up the house. The living room,
the den, the kitchen, the
bathrooms, the study, and her bedroom. Krystal was
repaying her parents for letting her
go out with Jason the previous night by cooking and
cleaning.

Hey, Tina. How many people are you having
over? Krystal asked her sister,
who was on the Internet chatting with some friends.

Um, two. Krystal made her way back to the
kitchen. Tina yelled to Krystal.
Make that three, sis. Heather just said she could come.
Krystal rolled her eyes. Aight. Wheres Lee? I
need to know how many people
hes having over.

Hes probably upstairs combing his hair. He
invited a girl over here.

Krystal popped her head around the corner. No!
Get out! Lee doesnt like
girls.

Well, he does now. What do you expect, hes
thirteen.

I know, but just last week, he said he would
never marry anyone when he got
older. He said that girls had no meaning on the earth
than to give birth.

He said that? Oh, Im gonna kick his butt all
the way to the North Pole. Tina
was talking through her teeth. Thats how everyone knew
she was really ticked. She
absolutely hated when guys made sexist remarks about
girls. Wheres the little weasel?

Wait, Tina, dont kill him. Please, I have
enough to do already. I cant have
you two fighting.

All right, but tell him he is being touched by
an angel. But, when its gone, his
behind is mine!

Ill tell him. Krystal giggled as she ran
upstairs to look for Lee.

* * * * * * * * * *
Meanwhile...

Jason grabbed the key to the rental car and his
jacket and strolled outside. He
passed Nate in the lobby.

Nate called to him. Jason! Where are you going?

Im going to Krystals house. See you tonight,
okay? Jason answered.

Wait, Nate dashed over to him. Youre going
to see her again? Whoa, two
days in a row. You must really like her.

I do, but that has nothing to do with it. I
agreed Id give her a ride to the store.
Shes cooking dinner.

Shes only known you a day, and shes already
cooking for you? Impressive.
Nate smiled.

Shes cooking only because her mom told her she
had to. Now, can I please
go?
Yeah, but be home by 10:00, or Nathanll give
you a rude awakening
tomorrow morning. He said we have to try this restaurant
for breakfast. Do you need me
to wake you?

Nate, you must have forgotten who you are
talking to. I wake up before
anyone else. Dont worry.

Okay, tell your girlfriend I said hi. Nate
turned toward the elevator.

Shes not my girlfriend, Jason called to Nate.

Not yet, anyway, Nate said over his shoulder.

Jason rolled his eyes upward. He walked out of
the hotel. Jason thought about
what Nate had just said. Would he and Krystal end up
dating? Was Krystal his future
wife? How did Krystal feel about him? Did it really
matter? After he left Georgia, would
he still feel the same way about her? Would he find
someone else? He was full of
questions.

* * * * * * * * * *

Krystal looked for Lee in his room. But, he
wasnt there. She checked
downstairs, in the kitchen, the study, the den, the
living room, everywhere.

Krystal shrugged and went into the bathroom to
empty out the dirty clothes
hampers. She opened the door and there stood Lee, with
shaving cream on his face and
a razor in his hand.

Lee! What are you doing? You cant shave yet!

Why not? Im thirteen, Im a man! Lee opposed.

Lee, you have nothing to shave. Im sorry,
babe. You have no facial hair yet.
Anyways, why do want to shave? Youve never wanted to do
it before.

None of your business!

Krystal frowned. I wonder whats wrong with Lee!
He isnt acting himself. Hes
always wanted to talk to me. Hes the one who always
gives me good advice. Hes
always cheered me up when Im down in the dumps. Hes
always listened to me, now its
my turn to return the favor.

Cmon, Lee. This isnt you talking. Youve
always talked to me. We always
share secrets together. Talk to me. Please?

Okay, but you cant tell anyone, okay? Lee
dragged Krystal into his bedroom.
Okay, see, there is this girl from my school, Lydia.
Well, Ive liked her for a long time,
since I was eleven, but shes never given me the time of
day. Anyway, she was going with
this guy, Vince, who is the coolest guy in class. But,
they broke up a couple of weeks ago.
And it turns out, Lydia has liked me all those years.
And she wants to be my
girlfriend! But, a girl like Lydia doesnt need a little
boy, she needs a man. And Sam said
that you become a man when you start to shave.

First off, Lee, dont ever go to Sam for
advice. Secondly, you do not become a
man when you start to shave. You become a man when you
learn to take on responsibility.
You know, like doing your homework before you watch TV,
taking Dallas out for walks
or feeding him. Keeping your room clean. Thats what
makes you a man, not if you grow
facial hair or not. And, didnt you just say that Lydia
liked you a
long time ago?

Lee nodded. Yeah, so?

Well, if she liked you a long time ago, when
you were eleven, then she liked
you even before you cared what shaving was.

Hey, yeah! I never thought of it that way.

Besides, little bro, if she didnt like you for
who you are, you shouldnt try to
change yourself. The real thing is always better than
artificial. Krystal smiled.

Thanks, big sister. I love you. Lee hugged his
sister.

I love you, too, Lee Bear.

Lee frowned. Uh, Krys, Im thirteen, dont you
think Im a little too old for
that nickname? I mean, I am almost a man.

No. Even when youre my age, youll still be my
Lee Bear. Krystal pinched
Lees cheeks.

Lee slugged Krystal with his pillow.

Oh, no! Krystal jumped to her feet. You did
not just go there! Okay, using
Tinas words, Your behind is mine! Krystal grabbed a
pillow and clobbered Lee. She
pinned him down on his bed, sat on him, and pulled his
ears.

Lee yelped at the top of his lungs in pain. Get
off of me or Ill tell!

Aww, some man you are, you still go to Mommy
for protection. Furthermore,
I am the only adult in the house. So, you have no one to
run to. Krystal grabbed two
pillows and hit Lee with both of them repeatedly.
Krystal was interrupted by someone clearing
their throat. Jason stood in the
doorway. Nikki let me in. he said.

Krystal got off of Lee and Lee sat up.

No, please continue, this is interesting. I can
see it now Big sister beats up
little brother, on the next Oprah.

Krystal grinned. We were just kidding around.

Who was kidding? You were killing me! Lee had
a reputation for
exaggerating everything.

Shut up, Lee. Krystal slapped the back of his
head. Get out.

No way! This is my room, remember?

Fine, then well leave. Krystal exited the
room dramatically.

Lee leaned closer to Jason and whispered, Can
you spell drama queen? Jason
chuckled.

Krystal stomped back into the room and smacked
the back of  Lees head again.
I heard that, big mouth.

If you smack me in my head one more time,
Ill ... Lee warned.

Youll what? Nothing! Krystal flipped her hair
over her shoulder and left the
room again.

Lee murmured to Jason. Beware of my sister. She
may seem innocent, but Im
serious, she will kill you. She knows karate. Too bad
she only uses it for evil and not
good.

Jason grinned. Thanks for the suggestion.

Krystal came into the room again and popped
Lees head. I heard that, too.
Krystal crossed her arms. Ill be glad when you get
over the humiliate your sisters stage
in puberty.

Why should I? Lee argued. Sam never did.

Good point. Krystal veered toward Jason. Im
ready when you are.

Cool, lets go. he said.

Oh, Lee, how many people do you have coming
over?

Just Lydia. Now leave, I have to find something
to wear.

Okay, okay. Bye. Krystal and Jason left the
room and Krystal closed the door
behind them.

So, Jason said as the walked out the front
door. How are you?

Im okay. Really tired. Ive cleaned the entire
house today. Plus, I still have to
cook dinner. But, its worth it. Im repaying my parents
for letting me go out with you last
night.

Oh, I see. So, what are you cooking?

Believe me, nothing fancy. Just some tortilla
chips and dip. But, its my famous
dip. Youre going to love it.

Sounds good, Jason geared the car into reverse
and backed the car backward
out of the driveway.

On the way to the store, Jason and Krystal rode
quietly. The quiet was a bit too
much for them so Krystal turned on the radio. She
flipped the switch to J93.3.

I bet Forever will come on next. This station
always plays that song. she
stated.

Sure enough, Forever came on next. Jason and
Krystal eyed each other and
then laughed.

After the song ended, Jason turned the radio
back off. So, do you really know
karate?

Krystal smiled. Jase, my brother over
exaggerates things. Yeah, I do karate,
but dont worry, I only use it when and if I have to.

So, um, did you have a good time last night?
Jason asked.

I did. I really did. Thank you so much. I
havent laughed so hard in forever!
Its funny, I never really pictured you to be so silly.

Sometimes it takes a special person to bring
the kid out in you. Jason saw
Krystal blush.

Um, this store will do fine. Krystal wiped her
sweaty palms on her jeans.

Jason made a right turn and drove around looking
for a parking space. I cant
wait to hear your song. How long did it take for you and
your brother to write it?

Well, Id estimate about two weeks. It was a
fun experience. It was cool
working with Sam. Like I said last night, we dont
really spend too much time together.
Just enough to greet each other or to write a song.

Oh. And how long does it usually take for you
to finish the complete song?
Jason pulled into a parking space far from the store
entrance. It was the only one
unoccupied.

Id guess, maybe a month. On No Lost Love,
Dad played guitar, Sam played
bass, Lee played piano, Tina played drums, and Nikki,
Mom and me sang lead and
background vocals.

You sing, too! Why didnt you tell me?

I dont know, it didnt seem like a big deal.

So, you dance, you write songs, you sing. How
do you ever find time to do any
of those things? Jason and Krystal walked side by side
to the entrance of the store.

I just stick to one thing, and thats dancing.
I like to write and sing, but
dancings my specialty. Its what sets me apart from my
family. Everyone in my family
sings and writes. But Im the only one who dances. Its
what makes me, me, I guess.

What was it like working with your whole family
on this project? It sounds like
you had a good time making this song. Jason got a cart.

Oh, it was so cool. My favorite part would have
to be when my mom breaks
into Spanish in the middle of the song. Its always nice
to hear my mom speak Spanish.
I like to get in touch with part of my heritage.

Youre Latina? Jason asked.

Yeah, you met my mom. You couldnt tell she was
Latina?

Yeah, I did, I guess it just didnt click.

Oh, Ive had plenty of those problems. But,
yeah, I am half Latina and half
Black. My mom is from Dominican Republic, and my dad was
born in Jamaica and
moved here with his family when he was four. So, my
siblings and I grew up speaking
Spanglish. Krystal took some cheese off the shelf and
checked it off her grocery list.

Whats Spanglish? Jason was confused.

Oh! Im sorry. Thats the word my siblings and
I use for when you speak
English and Spanish at the same time. When we were
really little, we used to speak
everything in Spanish, but some people thought it was
weird, so we started Spanglish.
Wed start a sentence in English and end it in Spanish.
When that didnt work too
well, we went to English full-time.

Cool! Can you still speak Spanish?

I only remember a little.

The two shopped the rest of the time in silence.
A couple of girls stared at
Jason, while others came rushing up to him asking for
his autograph. While Jason
signed autographs, Krystal watched from afar. She
noticed his every move. She saw him
pick up a baby and hold her on his hip. He played around
with a little 5-year-old boy. He
gave his fans hugs. He was so generous. Many people
wouldnt even have taken the time
just to say hi. It was like Krystal was watching him in
slow motion. Like no one in the
world existed but him. Wait! thought Krystal. I cant
like Jason Perry. Hes not the
type of guy who would go out with a girl like me. At
least, not seriously. Besides, its not
even like he likes me! Girl, you are so fooling yourself.

* * * * * * * * * *
Later...

When Jason and Krystal returned, Krystal headed
straight for the kitchen. She
had a salad to prepare, dips to make, chips to warm. And
she had to clean up after
everyone ate.

She rolled up her sleeves, put the food away,
and washed her hands afterward.

Jason rolled up his sleeves and washed his
hands, too. What can I do to help?
he asked.

Krystal looked at Jason. You still want to help
me cook?

Yeah, of course. What am I supposed to do?

Okay, if youre positive. Here, she handed him
a jar of taco sauce. You can
open this while I brown the ground beef.

All right, Jason pounded the bottom of the jar
three good times and it popped
open easily. Its open. Now what? Jason set the jar
aside.

Krystal stared at the jar in awe. She had just
tried to open that jar and it
wouldnt budge. Um, you can chop onions. Here, she
handed him an onion. Make
sure theyre just the right size. Not too big, not too
small.

Jason winked. I gotcha.

Oh! Krystal went to her purse and grabbed a
stick of gum out of it and threw
it Jasons way. Here, chew this. Keeps your eyes from
burning.

Jason caught it. Really? Cool.

Krystal finished browning the ground beef and
put it in a colander so the excess
water could drain out.

So, Jason began. Are you going to let me hear
your song?

Yeah, in time. Right now we have make both
dips. Cheese and beef, and spicy.
Were going to make the spicy dip first because that has
to cool in the fridge for an hour
or so. The cheese and beef dip is better warm. After
everythings finished then we can go
upstairs in my room and check out the song.

Cool. All right, the onions are chopped just
the right size, now what?

Krystal checked Jasons work. Hmmm, not bad for
a beginner.

Hey! Not bad?

Krystal punched Jason playfully. Im kidding.

Jason chuckled. Dont hit me.

Krystal smiled knowingly. What? You mean like
this? Krystal jabbed Jasons
arm.

No, I meant like this. He slugged Krystals
shoulder blade.

Oh! My fault. You mean like this! Krystal
punched Jason in his stomach.

Jason doubled over and held his stomach. Ow!

Krystals eyes almost bugged out of her
head. Oh my word! I hurt you! Are
you okay? Krystal knelt beside Jason. He stood up,
grabbed Krystals arms and held them
behind her back. I thought you were hurt. Krystal
tried to get away from Jasons
grip.

Its a little thing I like to call acting. he
replied.

Krystal elbowed Jason in his stomach and got
away. He was in awe. Wow, no
ones ever gotten away from me before. Congratulations,
Krystal Avery. Jason held out
his hand.

Krystal shook it. Thank you, Jason Perry.
Cmon, lets finish in here so we can
listen to some music.

* * * * * * * * * *
Later...

Krystal and Jason finished the cooking and went
upstairs to listen to music.
Krystal ran ahead of Jason and opened the door. Inside
the room was Tina and her
friends, Alexis, Heather, and Elyse.

Tina, do you think that you and your friends
could possibly go downstairs in
the study and play?

Krys, we are fourteen, teenagers now. Were too
old to play. Were discussing
important business. Tina sat up on her bed.

What kind of business? Krystal stared at her
sister suspiciously.

Were discussing important private business.
Could you please go somewhere
else? Heather piped in.

Fine, well go somewhere else then.

Jason came up behind Krystal. Hi, he waved to
the girls.

Tina jumped up from her seat and pulled Krystal
in a corner. Dear older sister
of mine, why didnt you tell me Jason was coming over
today?

Um, why do you care? I thought you liked Nate.

I do, but if I had have known Jason was coming
I wouldve invited the whole
school over.

Tin, Jason and I need the room. Do you think
you and your friends could go
somewhere else?

Could we please stay, Krys. Heather, Elyse, and
Alexis wanted to meet Jason
anyway. I mean, what could be cooler than hanging with
your big sister and her cute,
famous friend?

Okay, Ill make a bargain with you, Ill let
you stay if you and your friends will
clean this room up every Saturday you come over here
instead of me doing it.

Okay, one sec. Tina held up one finger. She
talked it over with her friends.

Krystal went and stood next to Jason and crossed
her arms over her chest.
Guys, times wasting.

Okay, okay, Tina said finally. Well do it.

Pleasure doing business with you, sister. Now
get back on your side of the
room before I squash you like a bug.

Whatever. Tina and her friends sat in a circle
on Tinas bed and whispered
softly.

Krystal turned to Jason. Okay, cmon, my CDs
are over here and I have a tape
with No Lost Love on it.

Okay. Jason looked at all Krystals
CDs. Hmmm, ZOË girl, Stacie Orrico,
Rachael Lampa, Jaci Velasquez, Fred Hammond, Joy
Williams, Natalie Grant, I like your
taste.

Youre forgetting Plus One.

Oh yeah, I really like your taste.

Thanks, Krystal called from under her bed. She
was searching through her
tape cassettes. She pulled one out of the mess. Ah,
here it is. She played it in her stereo.

After the song was over, Krystal stopped and
rewound the tape. So, whatd
you think?

Its great. It was a beautiful song. You and
Sam have a cool talent. Writing.

Thanks, Im glad you liked it.

And you have a pretty voice.

Krystal blushed modestly. Thanks, that means a
lot. I-- Krystal was
interrupted by giggles coming from the other side of the
room.

Im sorry about my little sister and her
friends, Jase. Lately, every Saturday
they take turns going over each others houses. They
usually talk about boys all day and
all night. Krystal rolled her eyes.

I know what you mean. I have a little sister,
too.

Jason watched Krystal as she wrote something
down on a purple pad with her
purple pen. He noticed how perfectly her long, dark,
silky hair framed her face. She was
the most beautiful woman hed ever seen.

Krystal looked up and her eyes met his. She
smiled. What? Whats wrong?
she asked.

He shook his head. Nothing. I was just
thinking.

Krystal shrugged and checked her watch. Okay,
its almost time for my parents
to get home from work. The salad has to be made and the
cheese and beef dip has to be
heated.

Well, Jason stood from his seat on Krystals
bed. Lets go.

* * * * * * * * * *
Half an hour later...

Jason and Krystal were just finishing up the
salad when the doorbell rang. Ill
get it, Ill be right back.

Jason nodded while humming to the song, Who Am
I, and sprinkling
cucumbers on  top of the salad.

Krystal was just about to answer the door when
Lee came running downstairs.
Dont answer it! Let me! Lee jumped in front of
Krystal and opened the door. Outside,
stood a very pretty young girl. Hi, Lee smiled.

Hi, the girl stepped into the house. Its
good to see you again, Lee.

Its nice to see you, too. Can I take your
jacket? The girl gave Lee her jacket.
Lee went to the hall closet and hung it up.

Krystal cleared her throat. Lee, arent you
going to introduce me to your
friend?

Oh, Lydia, this my sister. Lee said idly.

Thanks. Krystal rolled her eyes at Lee. She
stuck her hand out to Lydia. Hi,
Lydia, Im Krystal.

Nice to meet you, Krystal. Lydia smiled
sweetly.

Lee mouthed the words, Get out!

Krystal rolled her eyes. I hate to leave you
guys, but I have to finish dinner. Ill
see you later, you two.

Goodbye, Krystal. Lydia called after her. She
seems nice. Lydia said when
Krystal disappeared in the next room.

She is, Krystals like one of my best friends.
Lee slipped his hand into Lydias.
So, you wanna take a walk?

Sure, Lydia squeezed Lees hand. She bit her
lip to keep from blushing.

* * * * * * * * * *
After dinner...

Great dinner, Krys, Lee cleaned his mouth with
a napkin. Best ever.

Thanks, Jase helped me a lot. Krystal replied.

Mom, can Lydia and I be excused? We want to go
hang out in the study. Lee
asked his mother.

Sure, baby. Mrs. Avery got up to wash the
dishes.

Mom, what are you doing? Krystal stood up.

Im going to wash the dishes. What do you think
Im doing?

Mom, no need, I am going to do them. So sit
down and relax, enjoy the rest of
your evening. Ive got it totally covered.

Did I hear right? Did you just say what I think
you said? Am I dreaming? Mrs.
Avery sat down heavily into her seat.

No, mom. I just thought this would be a nice
way for me to show my gratitude
to both of my wonderful parents.

Mr. Avery spoke up. Thank you, baby. He kissed
Krystals forehead. I can
really tell youre becoming an adult. Im proud of you
for taking responsibility.

Krystal beamed. Thanks, daddy. Now, you and mom
go settle down in the
living room and Ill bring coffee.
Sam stood from the table. Dinner was delicious,
Krys and Jason. Ill be in my
room for an hour or so. I have to call Jasmine. See ya
later. Sam placed his dirty dishes in
the sink.

Nikki helped clear off the table. Im going in
the living room with mom and
dad.

Ill bring you coffee, too, Nikki. Krystal
wiped off the table with a dish rag
and brushed all the crumbs into her hand.

Thanks, sis. Nikki looked over at Tinas
friends who were rudely gawking at
Jason.

Would you date a younger woman? Heather asked
him.

Jason watched her suspiciously. How young are
you talking?

Our age! Tina, Heather, Alexis, and Elyse
exclaimed in unison.

Jason smiled uneasily.

Guys! Nikki called to the girls. How about we
go into the living room, too,
okay? Nikki herded the girls into the next room.

Thank you, Jason whispered to Nikki.

She winked. No problem. She left the room.

Krystal started to run water so that she could
begin on the dishes. Um, Jase,
she called over her shoulder. You can go out in the
living room with everyone else and
Ill finish up here.

I can help you. Jason stood next to Krystal.

Youve done so much already. This is your
vacation, relax a little.

I can relax later. I want to help. Jason
smiled sincerely.

Okay, if youre sure. I guess you can start to
the coffee and Ill do the dishes.

* * * * * * * * *
Half an hour later...

Jason brought a tray with the coffee on it and
Krystal  brought the cups into the
living room. She sat the cups down on the coffee table
and Jason set the tray down. They
both served the adults.

Just then, Lee and Lydia came into the room. Lee
sat down quietly, looking
around at everyone. He looked uncomfortable.

Krystal studied his face, hoping shed find the
reason he was acting so weird.
She handed a cup of coffee to Sam, who had just
retreated from his room upstairs. I
thought you were on the phone with Jasmine. she said.

He accepted the cup. I called, but she wasnt
there. I thought Id just come
back down here with you guys.

Well, Ill be right back, I have to get the
cream and sugar. Krystal went to the
kitchen to retrieve them.

Krystal was just going to head  back into the
living room, when Lee rushed in
the room. Lee, I know somethings up. So spill it.
Krystal sat in a nearby chair.

Okay, but you cant tell anyone. Especially
Tina. Shed practically have license
to mock me forever.

Lee, Im sure it isnt as bad as youre making
it. So, whats up?

Um, Lydia kissed me.

And.... What else?

Thats it, she kissed me.

Lee, dont you think youre a little too young
to be getting kissed? Youre only
thirteen.
Well, it wasnt a real kiss. See, she kind of
just pecked me on the lips.

Ohhhh, okay. Well, in that case, little
brother, Im happy for you.
Congratulations on your first kiss.

Thanks, Krys. I had to tell someone. I knew it
had to be you, youre the only
one who really understands me. I love you.

Krystal smiled. I love you, too, Lee. Now
cmon, lets get out of here.

Lee tugged on Krystals arm. Wait, I have a
question to ask you.

Okay, whats up?

Do you like Jason? Lee asked her.

Krystal wrinkled her brow. Um, yeah, sure. Why?

No, Krys, I mean, do you really like him? As a
boyfriend.

Krystal blinked. Wow, thats a hard question
for me to answer. But, Im not to
going to lie, Lee. I do like Jason. I like him a lot.
But, Ive never really thought of him as a
boyfriend. Why do ask?

Because he likes you!

Lee, what are talking about? Krystal inquired.

Cmon, Krys, its so obvious. The guy likes
you. Everyone knows it. Nikki,
Tina, Sam, everyone. I cant believe you dont. He
follows wherever you go. If you go
into the kitchen, hes behind you. If you want to watch
TV, hes right beside you. Sis, its
so evident.

Just then, Jason came into the kitchen. Your
mom was wondering what was
keeping you two. Im just getting the cream and sugar.
He got them off the table and left
the room.

Lee eyed Krystal. Lee, that was a coincidence.
Krystal argued.

Yeah, sure. Did you see the way he looked at
you when he came in here? He
likes you!

Lee, I think youre getting your signals
crossed.

No! I know you think just because Im thirteen,
Im a baby and nothing I say
really matters. But, I expect an apology from you on you
and Jasons wedding day.

Krystal smiled. Little brother, I think you
watch too much TV. Lets go.

Krystal grabbed her brothers hand and dragged
him into the living room where
salsa music was playing on the stereo. Mr. and Mrs.
Avery were in the middle of the floor
dancing.

Krystal found a seat next to Jason, who looked
amused. Aw, dad, sit down!
Face it, youre never going to be able to dance as good
as mom. Krystal said to her
father.

Oh, you think you can do better? he asked.

No way! I dont think so, I know so.

Okay, well lets see your moves, Miss Krystal.

Uh, Ill pass.

Whats wrong? Tina asked. You chicken?

No, I just-- Krystal was broken up by Sam. He
grabbed Krystals hand.

Come on, little sister. Lets show them what we
got.

Okay. The music started. Krystal and her
brother danced away. Sam spun
Krystal out and she danced a solo. She wasnt showing a
bit of nervousness.

Jason was in awe. She really is the best dancer
Ive ever seen, he thought.

Krystal spun back in with Sam and they danced
their hearts away. When they
finished, they held hands and bowed together. Everyone
clapped. Krystal and Sam
returned to their seats.

That was really good, Krys and Sam. You two
make a great team! Jason said
when Krystal sat down beside him.

Thanks. Krystal beamed.

Yeah, thanks, man. We do make a pretty good
team, dont we, Krys? Sam
helped himself to some more coffee.

Yeah. Actually, Sam and I was a team a long
time ago. When we were real
little we danced in competitions and won most of them.

Really? Do you still compete together? Jason
set his coffee mug on the table.

No. Sam quit dancing a few years ago. Ive been
competing solo ever since.

Krystal, I told you I had other things to do. I
wanted to get a job, study harder,
I was just too busy for extra activities.

I know, Sam. But, even when you werent busy,
you couldnt care less about
dancing anymore. How could you lose interest in dancing
overnight?

It wasnt overnight, Krys. I thought long and
hard about it. I dont know how I
lost interest in it, okay? So can we please drop it!

Yeah, sure. Krystal got up and stormed out
unto the front porch.

Whoa baby! Tina, Elsye, Heather, and Alexis
exclaimed at the same time.

Jason got up to go after Krystal. Excuse me,
everyone.

Tina and her friends ooh ed. Jason ignored
them and went out on the porch to
find Krystal, but she wasnt there. He went around to
the back of the house and found
Krystal swinging slowly on the double swing set. She was
singing softly to herself.

Jason walked up to her and sat on the other
swing beside her. Are you okay?
You sounded pretty upset in there.

I know, Im sorry. I guess I am a little
steamed. Its just that as much as I want
to, I cant understand why he quit. I mean, I never
quit.

Krys, you and Sam may have the same parents,
the same house, the same blood
running through you, but you are still two very
different people. You cant expect him to
do what you would do.

I know. Maybe its my own fault. I couldve
done something.

What could you have possibly done, Krys?

I couldve said something. Anything. But, no, I
just let him break our oath. I
mean, I know dancing is hard and competitive, but that
is no reason to quit. Even though,
once upon time I was going to.

Krystal, what are you saying? Jason got out of
his swing and pushed Krystal
in hers.

Im saying I dont blame him for quitting. Its
hard. You have to stay fit, you
have hard routines to practice day and night. Its time
consuming. But, now this isnt
about dancing. Because I think Sam is too old to even
think about dancing anymore,
anyway. And he is a guy. Ever seen a 20-year-old male
dancer lately?
Krys, I dont get it, Jason pushed the swing
higher. If its not about dancing,
what is it about?

Its about him and me. I-- Krystal hesitated.

You, what? Jason urged her.

I miss him, okay? Krystal jumped off the swing
while it was still high in the
air.  She went and sat one of the steps on the back
patio. She blinked her eyes to hold
back the tears.

Jason followed and sat alongside her. Want to
talk about it? he asked.

Ever since Sam and I were little we did
everything together, Krystal started.
We practiced dance routines together, he helped me with
my karate, we did our chores
together, we did our homework together, everything. But,
it seems the day he turned
sixteen, everything that I was used to changed. He quit
dance, he was always too busy
with his other interests to help me with karate, he
always left me to do his chores so he do
could go out with his girlfriend, and he always did
homework with friends. Its been that
way for five years. I think my relationship with my
brother is dying.

Krys, dont let it die! You can prevent it from
dying. Everything dies, people,
plants, animals, relationships. You and your brothers
relationship doesnt have to.

Jason, how am I supposed to avert it from
dying?

By telling your brother what you just told me.
Tell him how much you care
about him, tell him you miss him.

Krystal couldnt keep from crying. A tear slid
down her face. She hurried and
wiped it away.

Jason touched Krystals arm. Its okay to cry,
Krystal. Dont be afraid to
express your emotions.

She nodded. I know. But, I never cry. I dont
even remember the last time I
ever cried.

Well, for someone who hasnt had a lot of
practice, you seem like a pretty
skilled crier to me. Jason smiled. Are you okay?

Krystal nodded as more tears glided down her
face. She leaned on Jasons
shoulder.

He put his arm around her. Talk to your
brother. Pray. Who knows, maybe
Sams feeling the same way you are. Itll work out. I
promise.

Krystal suddenly realized that she was getting
too comfortable with Jason. She
jumped up and wiped the last tears off of her face.
Girl! she thought. You are definitely
losing your mind! You cant be getting too close to this
guy. But, I think its too late, Im
really falling for this guy.

I guess Id better go back in the house.
Krystal rubbed her arm. The one Jason
had been touching.

Yeah, Jason looked at his watch. It was 9:58.
He tapped the watch to make
sure that was the precise time. I have to go. Im late
as it is. I was supposed to be home
by 10:00. Ill talk to you later.

Okay, Ill walk you to your car. Krystal
started around the house to the front
yard. When they got there, she stood looking blank.

What? Jason laughed at the expression on
Krystals face.

I want to thank you. Thanks for talking to me
and listening.

No problem. What are friends for?

Friends? Were friends?

Yeah. You dont want to be? Jason raised an
eyebrow.

Yeah! I just thought that earlier you just said
you wanted to be my friend
because you felt sorry for me or something.

Well, I guess you dont know me as well as you
thought. I meant what I said.
He smiled genuinely.

Krystal grinned back. Thanks, so much. Ill
talk to you later.

Okay. Jason got into the car and drove out of
the driveway.

Krystal entered the house. The living room was
deserted. Tinas friends and
Lees guest had all left. Mr. and Mrs. Avery had already
gone to bed. Nikki was upstairs
in her room. Tina was watching her favorite TV show. Lee
was getting ready for bed. Sam
was on the Internet.

Krystal ran upstairs to her room and got her
diary out to write in it.

Dear Diary,

Fri. 10-18-2002

Today was the best (and worst) day ever! Ill
get to the worst part later. But,
youve got to hear the good news first!

Jase came over today! He helped me cook dinner
for mom and dad. He is such a
great guy! He is sweet, cute, funny, nice, a good
listener, cute, gives good advice, a good
friend. (Did I mention that hes cute? *laughs*) Anyway,
in general hes an amazing
person.

I got mad at Sam today. (You know what about.
Ive written in you about it a
couple of times before.) I got so mad I stormed out of
the house. Jason came after me. We
talked a long time and he calmed me down. Because of
something Jason said, I think I
know how to stop the rivalry going on between Sam and
me. I hope it works!

Something weird happened today, too. Well, while
Jason was talking to me about
Sam and our relationship as brother and sister, I
started to cry. (Thats weird enough
already, but theres something else.) Anyway, what
happened was, well, Jason was telling
me its okay to cry and all that stuff. And well, I got
so comfortable with him that I leaned
my head on his shoulder and he put his arm around me!

I think Im starting to really like this guy.
Should I keep this a secret? Should I tell
him? Does he feel the same way? Will this feeling go
away?

Lee was telling me earlier that he thinks that
Jason likes me. Im not sure what to
believe, though. Its all in Gods hands.

Well, I have to talk to Sam. Later.

Love Always,
Krystal A.

Krystal put her diary away and undressed and
redressed into her pajamas, a tank
top and shorts. She quickly got on her knees to pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, Krystal prayed. Thank
You for everything youve ever
given me. My clothes, my house, food, family who loves
me, and friends who care, even
though I dont have many.

Thank You for Your Son who fearlessly and
willingly gave His life for me. Thank
You for salvation.

Thank You for a very special friend, Lord.
Jason Perry. He has been more of a
friend to me in the last 2 days than anyone could be a
friend in 2 years! I pray that You
will bless him. He is truly a tremendous person.

Please bless Plus One in general, Lord. I pray
that You will keep them in good
health so that they may spread the Gospel throughout
this land. Krystal paused and
sighed.
Lord, I pray that You mend me and my older
brothers relationship. I pray that
You will help us to get along better and to spend more
time together. In your precious
Sons name I pray. Amen.

Krystal got up from her bedside and walked
across the hall to Sams room. She
knocked softly. Sam opened the door. Sam, could I come
in? We really need to talk.

I agree. Come in. Sam said.

Krystal walked inside the room.

First things first, I guess. Sam embraced his
sister.

Sam, Im sorry. Krystal held onto her brother
for dear life. Im so sorry.

Sam looked into his sisters light brown
eyes. You have nothing to be sorry
about. Lets go talk.

* * * * * * * * * *
7:00 p.m. the next night...

Hello? Krystal answered her purple phone in
her room. She had her own phone
line and very rarely anyone called on it, except her
family who had cell phones.

Hey, Krys, It was Jason. Can you come over? I
know its a little short notice.

Thats okay, Jason. Id love to come over. I
was on my way out, anyway. I have
something to tell you.

Oh yeah? What? he asked.

You have to wait until I get there. Oh, by the
way, are the guys--

No, the guys arent here. They left. Jason
interrupted.

Youre kidding! Oh, well, Ill be over in a
second. I have to go to my job and get
my check first, okay?

Okay, see ya. Jason hung up.

Krystal hung up and went downstairs to the den.
Sam was watching a movie on
the DVD player.

Sammy? Krystal said.
Whats up, Krys? he replied with his eyes
still glued to the TV screen.

Well, Jase just called me and he wants me to
come over, but I cant drive mom or
dads cars. They arent even here. Nikki is out with
some friends, so I cant borrow her
car. So, I was wondering if perhaps youd possibly let
me borrow yours. Krystal winced
and waited for Sam to say no.

Yes, he answered, eyes still on the screen.

Krystal blinked. Are you sure?

Yeah, whatever, go.
Krystal paused the DVD and stood in Sams way so
that he couldnt see the TV.
Sam, I said, could I borrow your car? Krystal said
each word slowly and clearly as if
Sam was a special education student.

I heard you the first time, Krystal. Yes, take
the car. Have a good time. Sam
snatched the remote from Krystal, pushed her out of his
way, and pressed play.

Okay, Im out. Bye, babe. Krystal took the
keys from Sam.

Peace out. Be careful. And dont call
me babe. Im not a pig! Sam called after
her.

Whatever! Krystal called over her shoulder.
As she left the house and cranked up the car,
Krystal thought to herself. I cant
believe Sam let me borrow his car! Not only is it his
car, but its new!!! I think our
relationship will survive. I think we saved it just in
time!

Krystal drove to the Family Christian Bookstore,
where she worked. She picked
up her check and cashed it. She then headed to the hotel
where Plus One was staying.

When she pulled into the Sheraton Hotels
parking lot, Krystal saw Jason standing
on the curb. She parked and ran up to him. Why are out
here at night? Its freezing! she
asked him.

Well, reason #1: Theres nothing to do in that
boring hotel room. Reason #2: I
wanted to wait down here for you. And reason #3: Im not
cold. So, whats up? Jason
asked her.

Nothing much. Just freezing like an icicle.

Why dont you have a coat on then? Jason asked
her.

It wasnt cold when I left home.
Is that your brothers car? Jason asked
referring to the baby blue Honda Accord.

Yeah! I am still in total shock that Sam even
let me leave the driveway in his car.
Krystal smiled.

Are you two okay? Jason started up the walkway.

Krystal trailed next to him. Were better than
okay. Ill tell you all about it once I
warm up, though. Krystal noticed that Jason was acting
strangely. He looked disturbed.
Jase? Are you feeling okay?

Jason smiled weakly. Im fine. Why do you ask?
He fished inside his pocket for
his key card.

Duh! You just smiled the most pitiful smile in
history! Whats bugging you? I
know somethings up. Krystal looked concerned.

Jason opened the hotel door, took Krystals
hands and pulled her over to the sofa.
Krystal tucked her hair behind her ears and waited for
Jason to say something. He didnt
speak.
Jase. Talk to me. Why are you acting so weird?

Jason sat down slowly by Krystal. Im going to
come right out and say it.

Good!

I got a phone call a while ago from our manager-
-

Mitchell Solarek, Krystal finished.

I know, I know, you know everything about me
and Plus One. Anyway, Mitchell
called us and said we have to leave at 7:00 in the a.m.
tomorrow morning.

What?! exclaimed Krystal. I thought you guys
werent leaving until next
Friday!

We were scheduled to leave then, but something
unexpected came up. They
added more dates to our tour schedule. If we still want
to end by early November, we
have to leave tomorrow. Jason sighed.

I cant believe this! Krystal held her head in
her hands. You know youre going
to miss my performance in church tomorrow, right?

I know, and I totally wanted to be there. I
tried to convince Mitchell to let us stay
for at least another day but this is an exact quote of
what he said, Sorry, Jase, no can do.
I expect you to be up and at em tomorrow at 6:00 a.m.

Krystal slumped in her seat and took a pillow
and hit herself over the head with it.
No, no, no, no, no, she said over and over
again. This is unfair! To you guys
especially. You were supposed to have a whole week to
chill.

I dont care that were missing a couple days
off. Im going to miss seeing you
everyday.

Krystal, whose face was covered with a pillow,
smiled and blushed wildly.

So, Jason said finally. What did you want to
tell me?

Krystal sat up straight. Oh yeah. I talked to
Sam last night.

You did? What happened?

Well, I told him how I felt and how much I
missed spending time with him. And
like you said, he felt the same way I did. He said he
was sorry for avoiding to take the
time to mend our relationship. And he wants to become
friends again. So, we were going
to go out tomorrow night. But, we have to change some
plans.

Why?

Well, he was going to bring his girlfriend,
Jasmine, along with us and he said that
I could invite a guy friend to come along, too. I was
going to ask you, but youre not
going to make it since you have to leave.

Oh, Krys. I wish I could go.

Not more than I do. Since I dont have another
guy friend Sam and I have to
change some plans.

Im sorry. Jason sighed. Well, come on. We
cant sit here and mope! Lets go
somewhere, anywhere. You choose.

What time is it? Krystal inquired. I dont
have my watch on.

8:15, Jason responded. Why?

Lets go. I want to show you my secret place.

Jason stood from the sofa. Wait a second, I
have to call the guys and let them
know Ill be out. You go ahead downstairs and warm up
the car.

Okay, Krystal left the hotel room.

Jason dialed Nathans cell phone number. A
minute went by, Nathans voice mail
message came on. Jason left a message. Hey, Nathan,
this is Jason. I just called to let you
guys know Im going out with Krystal and I wont be back
until late. Talk to you later.
Bye.

Jason hung up the phone and went downstairs to
the parking lot to meet Krystal.
When he got in the car, he asked, Where you taking me?

Youll see. I have to get some things from my
house. Is that okay?

Sure. Jason buckled his seat belt and leaned
his head back in relaxation.

The two rode silently in the night of noble
stars.

* * * * * * * * * *
Later...

Krystal parked the car, Jason looked
around. The park? How can your secret
place be in a park where lots of people come everyday?

Krystal laughed. Just shut up and come on.

Jason smiled. All right, Im coming.

Krystal went to the trunk and took out the coat
she had gotten from her house and
put it on. The she took out a flashlight and blanket and
put them in a basket. Lets go,
she said.

Krystal turned on the flashlight and started
down the trail with Jason close behind
her. When she got to a specific area, she turned to
Jason. Now we have to cut through
these woods. We have to hold hands because its pretty
dense in there. Do you mind?

No, its okay. Jason took Krystals hand and
squeezed it. She bit her lip. She
started through the thick, dark trees with Jason close
behind her.

This is sooo weird, she thought. I like Jason,
but I dont know if I should. Maybe
we are getting a little to close. Krystal let go of
Jasons hand.

Krys, Jason stated. You sure you know where
youre going?
Yeah, I come here all the time. Krystal wasnt
looking where she was going and
stumbled a little and fell to her knees in mud. Eww!
Gross! Ugh! she cried.

Jason helped her up. You okay, Krys?

Oh, disgusting! Nasty!

Krystal? Are you hurt?

No, no. Im okay. I tripped on a branch thats
stuck in the ground.

Hold my hand and dont let go, okay? That way
we wont fall or hurt ourselves.
Jason grasped Krystals hand. I wont let go of you. I
promise.

Krystal grinned and started trailing through the
deep dark woods again. Maybe
Jason does like me. Or maybe hes just being polite or
friendly. Krystal mused. Oh, I am
sooo confused.

After a while, Krystal and Jason got to the
other side of the woods. Jason saw a
beautiful site with a bench, picnic table, and a small
fountain.  Wow!

I know, Krystal said. I love this place. I
come here and think a lot.

Its nice here. Jason sat on the bench and
inhaled the fresh night air.

Krystal emptied the blanket from the straw
basket. She spread it on the ground.
She sat on it. Come here, she waved Jason over. I
want you to see my favorite part.
Jason came and sat beside Krystal. She pinned up her
hair and laid down on the blanket.
Isnt it gorgeous?

Jason looked around. All he saw was darkness
except for the shining glow from
the flashlight. Yeah, I guess. If you think that being
alone in the dark is gorgeous. he
chuckled.

Krystal sat up and punched Jasons arm
playfully. No, silly. Lay down. Krystal
laid back down comfortably on the blanket. Jason laid
next to her.

Oh, wow!. Jason gazed at the sky. The stars
were enchantingly astounding. They
looked incredible. Its so... so... I cant even speak.

I like to come here and think. I always feel so
close to God when Im here. This
place always reminds me of miraculously God made
everything. I love nature. Krystal
pulled her coat tightly around her.

Its so nice and mellow here.  Jason closed
his eyes and inhaled the air and then
exhaled. He opened his blue eyes and scanned the sky
slowly.

Thats another reason why I come here. If Im
scared, or sad, or upset, I come
here. Its full of peace and I feel so safe here. I feel
Gods presence with me when Im
here. Thats why this place is so special to me.

She is amazing! Jason thought. She is so true
and sincere and innocent. Shes
lovable, kind, gracious, gentle. Shes a good Christian.
She loves Jesus. Shes so full of
life and dreams. I really like this girl.

Jason and Krystal sat alone in silence watching
the stars. Krystal pointed. Look!
A shooting star. Make a wish!

Jason and Krystal shut their eyes and each made
a wish. Krystal sighed. Whatd
you wish for? That is, if you want to tell me.

Sure, Ill tell you. I wished that everyone in
the world would receive Christ into
their hearts so that no one would suffer when they die
or when the Rapture takes place.

Thats a nice wish. I wished that I wasnt
going to lose a special friend
tomorrow.

Jason blushed. Aw, cmon, its not going to be
that bad. Well be back here in no
time!

Krystal chuckled. Like always, do you promise?

Yeah, I promise.

Krystal played around with her W.W.J.D. band on
her arm. She twirled it around
and around. Jason scratched the back of his neck and
whistled. Krystal eyed him out of the
corner of her eye. Oh my word, hes so cute! Krystal
thought.

Jason viewed Krystal secretly. She has got to be
the best looking girl Ive ever
seen. But, Im definitely more attracted to whats on
the inside than her outer
appearance, Jason thought to himself.

Krystal looked over at Jason the same time he
looked over at her. They both
looked away quickly. Krystal smiled. This is totally
pathetic, she thought.

Whats so funny? Jason wanted to know.

Oh, nothing really. She grabbed Jasons arm
and looked at his watch. Oh my
word! Its 11:00! I have to get home and get my clothes
ready for church tomorrow
morning.

Yeah, and I have to finish packing. Jason
yawned loudly.

Krystal quickly gathered her things. Her purse
fell over and pictures went all over
the place. Jason stooped to pick them up.

Hey! he said. This is me. He took another
picture and studied it. And so is
this one, He turned over another. And this one. You
sure do have a lot of pictures of
me.

Krystal chuckled nervously. Well, what can I
say? Im a huge Jason Perry fan. I
have posters of you and of course Plus One, all over my
wall. You can barely see the
paint.

But, I was just in your room yesterday, I
didnt see any posters.

Well, thats because I took them down and hid
them in my closet. Krystal
smiled.
Jason faked a smile.

Krystal rolled her eyes. Oh my stinking word!
she yelled at herself in her head. Now
he probably thinks Im a total freak show! Krystal, you
totally blew it!

Krystal gathered the rest of the pictures and
stuffed them in her purse. She
decided shed just shut up for a while. She started back
into the dark trees.

Jason called after her. Krys? Arent you
forgetting something?

Krystal turned around. She shook her head
no. Like?

Jason bent over and took the flashlight and
switched it on. Then he ran ahead
and grabbed Krystals hand and led her into the
trees. Dont worry, he said to her. I
wont let you fall this time. Believe me, Im not
letting go.

Krystal blushed like mad. Thanks, she replied.

Later...

Thanks for driving me, Krys, Jason said to his
companion.

No problemo, Jas. Krystal put her arm on the
arm rest.

Jason bumped her arm off the rest and put his in
her place. Ahhh, memories.

Krystal giggled and bumped his arm back off.
They bumped each other back and
forth.

Krystal stopped playing and frowned.
Krys, whats wrong? Jason put his hand on
Krystals.

Its just so unfair you guys have to leave so
soon! Krystal moved her hand.

I know. But, thats a day in the life of a
singing group on tour. Were always
picking up and going somewhere.

Krystal tilted her head on the steering wheel.
She was beginning to get misty eyed.
No! You cant cry Krystal, Krystal told herself
silently. Youd better not cry!

Krystal held back tears.

Jason spoke up suddenly. Krystal, just for the
record, Ill miss you, too.

Krystal turned her head to look at
Jason. Really? Are you kidding me?

Im dead serious. Im going to miss you, a lot.
I know weve only known each
other a couple of days, but I feel like Ive known you
all my life. I know about your past
problems and conflicts with your brother. I know when
you grow up you want to be a
choreographer. And I know youre upset that you didnt
grow up with many friends. Even
though you dont admit it.

How do you figure that, Jase?

Its a vibe thing. I can tell by the way you
sound when you talk about it. Its easy
to tell you didnt like the fact that you didnt have
many friends.

Wow. I didnt think anyone would notice. I
mean, no one knows how I really feel
about not being the in the in crowd in school.

Thats what makes our friendship so fun! We
actually understand each other. Like
today, I didnt think youd notice that something was on
my mind. But, you did. Its so
cool.

Yeah, I guess it is. So were we like fast
friends or something?

Yeah. But, whats up with the were? Even
though were leaving, we can still be
the best of friends. I promise.

Krystal laughed. So, is that like your favorite
quote or something?

Jason chuckled. Yeah, pretty much. But, look, I
have to go in now. I still have
tons of packing to do.

Yeah, sure, okay. I guess Ill talk to you
later.

Bye, Krystal.

Bye, Jason.

Jason got out of the car and started up the
walkway. Krystal geared the car into
reverse and left feeling upset and oppressive. Krystal
knew she had to see Jason again
before he left once and for all!

Back at home...

Krystal ran upstairs to her brothers room and
knocked softly. Come in, Sam
answered.

He was on the phone. Okay, Jasmine. Ill talk
to you later. Bye. He hung up.

I just wanted to give you your keys back.
Krystal spoke up as she handed her
brother his car key. Thanks for letting me drive it,
too.

Youre welcome. Sam looked at his wall
clock. Whoa! Its almost midnight.
You must have had some time.

I did. I hope mom and dad dont mind that I was
late home again. I didnt wear
my watch today.

They called earlier and said theyd be staying
overnight at Aunt Lynne and Uncle
Erics house. I told them you were out with Jason. They
said since youve been acting so
mature lately, excluding the slip up with the lateness
issue, they will extend your curfew
time. You can now stay out until midnight. So, youre
just on time.

Krystal shrugged. Thats nice.

Krys? Sam asked. Whats on your mind?
Normally, youd be celebrating right
now. Sam stared into Krystals light brown eyes.
I just heard that Jason and the other Plus One
guys are leaving in the morning.

Oh, Krys. Then Jason cant come to dinner with
us.

Yeah, I know. I already talked to him about
it. Krystal sniffed.

Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?

No! Krystal jumped to her feet and left the
room. Whoa, girl! she thought. You
got to calm down.

Krystal got her diary out.

Dear Diary,
Sat. 10-19-2002

Today, the most tragic thing happened (well,
maybe not the most tragic, but its
still pretty upsetting.)!!! Jason told me hes leaving!
That is totally unfair! Its crazy!

Speaking of crazy, Im totally going to miss
Jase like crazy! Hes so nice! I wish he
wasnt leaving me.

I took Jason to my secret place. He loved it. We
watched the stars and talked for
hours. We even had to hold hands to get there! Now
thats what I call fate! *laughs*

Im real sad that Jase is going to leave. We
said goodbye tonight. But, I have to
see him again. Im going to surprise him and show up
tomorrow morning before the guys
leave.

I have to go. I have to get ready for church.
(Im performing my dance in church
tomorrow, remember?) Plus, I have to wake up earlier
than usual to go surprise Jason.
Later.

Love Always,
Krystal A.

6:02 a.m. the next morning...

Jason was sitting on the curb of an empty lot
where the tour bus was parked, when
Krystal pulled up in her mothers royal blue BMW. Mrs.
Avery was a lawyer and could
easily afford a BMW. Mr. Avery was an architect and he
drove a champagne colored
Mercedes-Benz. Krystals parents were very successful
business people and all of their
children were proud of them.
Krystal got out of the car and ran to where
Jason was sitting. He was looking
down, playing with a leaf that had just fallen from a
tree.

Krystal came up behind him. Bored, huh?

Jason turned around startled. Krys! What are
you doing here?!

I came to surprise you!

Oh my goodness! Why are you here? I thought you
said you werent a morning
person.

Im not, but I had to be here.

Jason smiled. Hey, the guys are in the bus. You
can finally meet them.

Okay, go get them.

Ill be right back.

Jason hurried into the bus. Hey, guys! Can you
come outside for a minute?

Whats up? Gabe asked.

Yeah, whats the big deal? Nathan yawned.

Krystals outside. She wants to meet you.
Jason zipped up his jacket.

Oh, your girlfriends here! Ooh! I have to meet
her. Cmon guys. Jeremy put on
his jacket and bounded outside.

Gabe looked around. Hey, wheres Nate?

Im coming! Nate exclaimed from the back of
the bus. I cant find my TRL
Christmas CD.

Well, hurry! Jasons girlfriend is here and she
wants to meet us. Gabe shouted
back.

Jason rolled his eyes. She is not my
girlfriend.

Gabe patted Jasons shoulder. Yeah, sure, keep
telling yourself that.

Jason, Nathan, Jeremy, and Gabe went back
outside to where Krystal was
standing.
Hey, Krys, Jason called to her. These are the
guys. Im pretty sure you know
their names.
Krystal shook Nathan, Gabe, and Jeremys hands
in turn. Yes, of course I do. Its
so amazing to meet you all. Jason talks about you guys
all the time.

Gabe put his hands in his pockets. Yeah, and we
hear about you all the time. he
said.

Jason elbowed him.

Ow! Gabe yelped. What? You do talk about her
all the time.

Nate jogged out of the bus and headed to where
everyone else was standing.
Jason spoke up. Nate, this is Krystal. Krystal,
this is Nate.

Hi, Krystal stuck out her hand.

Nate shook her hand. He looked into Krystals
eyes. Whoa! he said deeply.

Excuse me? Krystal asked.

Uh, I meant, hi. Nice to meet you, Krystal.

You too, Nate. Its nice to meet you all. I am
like a huge Plus One fan! My sisters
and I are the biggest Plus One freaks ever!

Oh really? Jeremy asked. Well, maybe we could
sign something for them.

Oh my word! Youd do that?!

Of course, a friend of Jasons is always a
friend of ours.

Oh, thanks, theyd love that!

Jeremy ran in the bus to look for a pen.

So, Krystal, Nathan said to her. I hear
youre performing a dance in church
today. You nervous?

No, not really, Krystal replied. Im really
anxious and excited. I love to dance
and being on stage in front of people has always been my
dream. Or to at least be a
choreographer or something.

Yeah, Jason told us you wanted to be a
choreographer.

Krystal nodded. Its a goal I plan to conquer.

Well, youre a very ambitious person, Krystal.
Nate spoke up. I hope your
dream comes true.

Thanks, Nate.

After all five guys signed autographs for Nikki
and Tina, it was almost time for the
guys to leave.

Jason gave the guys a look. Uh, dont you guys
have anywhere else to be?

Nathan started to walk backward. Well just
leave you two alone. Cmon guys.
Nice meeting you, Krystal.

Krystal smiled. You too, Nathan. Nice meeting
you all.

Were leaving soon, Jason said once the guys
were on the bus.

I know, its almost 7:00. I was going to get
here earlier, but I forgot to set my
alarm clock to 5:30. Plus, I couldnt find the right
blouse to go with this skirt.

Well, it looks great to me. You look awesome.

Krystal blushed. Thanks.

Gabe stuck his head out of one of the bus
windows. Hey, Jase! You have 15
minutes and then we have to jet. Gabe called to him.

Jason nodded. I guess I have to leave really
soon.

You promise to call every chance you get?

Of course. And do you promise to e-mail every
day?

Yeah. Ill call, Ill write, Ill e-mail,
anything.

Well, look, I have to go now. Ill call you the
minute I get a chance, okay?

Youd better.

Well, bye.

Krystal grinned. Yeah, bye.
Jason turned and walked toward the bus. Krystal
began to head to her mothers
car, when she turned back toward Jason. Jason! she
called to him. He turned and looked
at her.

Krystal rushed into his arms and embraced him.
Krystal whispered in his ear.
Friends?

Forever, he whispered back. He looked into
Krystals eyes, then hugged her
again.

Bye, Krystal said. She ran to where the BMW
was parked and climbed into the
drivers seat. Jasons last words rang in her
head. Forever, the word described her and
Jasons friendship. Always and forever.

A tear slid down Krystals face as Plus Ones
tour bus pulled out of the empty lot
and out of Krystals life. Goodbye, Jason, she
smiled. We will meet again.

To be continued...
